Signal Processing

The ABB DP640 module utilizes advanced digital signal processing (DSP) technology to provide high-precision speed measurements. The module processes input signals from proximity probes or magnetic pickups, converting the frequency information into accurate RPM values.

The module’s adaptive signal conditioning algorithms automatically compensate for variations in signal amplitude, which can occur due to sensor wear, air gap changes, or contamination. This ensures consistent measurement accuracy throughout the sensor’s lifecycle.

The dual-channel design allows for redundant speed measurement, with automatic voting logic that compares the two channels and detects discrepancies that may indicate sensor or wiring problems.

Overspeed Protection

The DP640 module includes built-in overspeed trip logic that provides critical protection for rotating equipment. The module continuously compares the measured speed against user-configurable trip thresholds.

When an overspeed condition is detected, the module activates both solid-state and dry contact outputs to initiate protective actions, such as shutting down the equipment or engaging a braking system.
